It is with great happiness that the “Carnaúba Socioambiental Institute” today announces the approval of a Project which involves environmental education in the school adopted by the program “Agroescola Verde”, in partnership with teachers and students of the Federal University of Piauí-UFPI / Campus Ministro Reis Velloso (Parnaíba, north of Piauí).
The project entitled “Environmental Education through school planting and valorization of vegetal extractivism with emphasis on the production chain of carnaúba” is an Extension Project fruit of the partnership between Professors Dr. Jesus Rodrigues Lemos and Dr. Maria Helena Alves, both teachers of the Course of Biological Sciences of the Federal University of Piauí and the Biologist Silvania Nogueira, manager of environmental projects of the “Carnaúba Socioambiental Institute”.
The contemplated school is the “José de Ribamar Oliveira Filho School Unit”, located in the rural area of the municipality of Araioses, in the village “Remanso”, state of Maranhão. Approximately 80 students will be benefited, distributed in the morning shift, in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades of Elementary School.
Among the many activities foreseen in the project, courses such as “Productive chains, vegetable extractivism and fair trade” will be given to undergraduate students of the Biological Sciences Course involved in the project in order to present the perspectives of social and economic development of the extractive activity , when developed within the principles of fair trade.
